Idea 6. Create A Vision Board

Our seventh Self Care Sunday Idea is ‘Do Something Creative.

Basically creativity is all about finding new ways to solve problems and finding ways to approach various situations.

We all have creativity within ourselves and this doesn’t just apply to writers, artists and musicians. The first step in finding your creativity is to allow yourself the time to discover your hidden talents.

The best way to do something creative or start increasing your creativity is to set goals. These goals may be manageable by yourself, or you may need to have someone help you. Especially if you are going to be learning new skills.

Once you have set your goal take the time to learn everything you can about this particular area. The end result is that you should become an expert on this topic.

Do you remember when you were younger you had a thirst for knowledge on a certain subject? This is the point that you want to try and rekindle. That thirst for learning everything you can about something. This quest should spark your passion.

Remember that it takes time to learn something new. It cannot be rushed and you must allow yourself plenty of time for studying. It is often the actual process of learning that becomes the best result of your creativity.

It may help to even schedule time into your calendar for this. You don’t have to work on this every day. Once or twice a week may be more than enough time. When setting your goal provide yourself with ample time to reach it. Allow for family and business commitments as necessary.

As you strive to reach your goals you are going to have to take chances and risks. Don’t hold back and put as much effort into this challenge as possible.

By giving yourself permission you are also increasing your confidence levels. You may even want to take notes along the way and see how much your confidence and self esteem improves. Lack of confidence can really hinder you when it comes to creativity.

Negative thinking is another huge hindrance. When you need to think and plan ahead it is much easier to do so when you are in a good mood or positive state of mind.

If necessary, take steps to work on improving your mindset before embarking on your new journey. This way you are setting yourself up for success.

Do Something Creative Using Mind Games

If you are looking for ways to improve your creativity and thinking powers then you should consider using mind or brain games. These games are exercises that help you to learn to not always take for granted what you see.

There is one exercise that was all about colours. In the first experiment the student had to say the colours of different blocks. This proved to be a pretty easy task.

In the next experiment they had to read the actual colour of words such as blue, green, red and yellow. The first rows had the name of the colour printed in the correct colour. But as the exercise progressed the colours changed. So the word blue was printed in red, for example.

This really threw the student, as their mind sees one thing and automatically associates it with what they are used to. This portion of the exercise had the student really slowing down and thinking of what the
correct answer was.

This goes to show that your mind can really become accustomed to things that are familiar. When you mix this up your brain has to work in a different way.

This is actually a good thing as it taxes your mind to start thinking more creatively. You have to focus more on certain objects and you have to start thinking outside of the box and looking for different solutions.

This is the perfect concept for how to improve your creativity. So why not use various mind games to achieve this? There are plenty of websites that offer brain games at various levels and for different things.

Lumosity is one of the most well known sites and you can play games that have been specifically designed to increase your creativity. They also have games for improving your focus and concentration amongst others.

You may be surprised at how quickly you can increase your creativity by playing a few games. Other games and activities that can help include things like crossword puzzles, word and number puzzles and even a good old fashioned jigsaw puzzle.

When was the last time you played a word association game? Or chose a word such as Christmas and tried to see how many other words you can make from it?

All of these things can be fun for the entire family and really boost your brain power, so do something creative today.
